Exhibiting Artists

Derek Bradbury

Born 1937, Wilmslow, Cheshire.

I did a three-year foundation course at Stockport College School of Art followed by a two year Graphic Design Course at the Regional College of Art, Manchester where I gained an NDD (National Diploma in Design).

A road traffic accident, in the early days of my graphic arts career, (before computer screens replaced the drawing board) resulted in a spinal neck injury that brought about a change of profession, from necessity. I sold my business in 1990 in order to paint full time.

I am inspired by the effects of light, colour and pattern of the landscape,
especially the quality of light to be found in the southern regions such as
Italy and the South of France as well as painting the play of light on
landscapes here in the UK.

I paint in the studio, from notes and photographs that help to stimulate my visual memory, preferring to work away from the motif and let the painting dictate its own course, making fewer references to the source material as the painting progresses.

I am currently represented by galleries from the Lake District to the Isles of Scilly.

I have held four successful solo exhibitions and been represented in numerous group shows, including the Mall Galleries, London as a finalist in the Singer and Friedlander/Sunday Times landscape competition.
